Dr. James Hopkinson is a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine at The Centre for Sports Medicine, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

 

He graduated from Nottingham University Medical School in 1997, and then trained in General Practice. Having gained his MRCGP in 2002 he obtained a Diploma in Sports Medicine the following year and completed Higher Specialist Training in Sport and Exercise Medicine in 2013.

 

Dr Hopkinson is Chief Medical Officer to Short Track Speed Skating, and has worked in a medical capacity to a wide variety of Sports to elite level. He has worked for team GB at 2 winter and 1 Summer Olympic Holding camps (London 2012) as well as 2 World University Games, A European Youth Winter Olympic Festival, as well as team physician work with Nottingham County Cricket Club, and GB Disability Canoeing.

 

Dr Hopkinson continues to work in General Practice, and is involved in NMATS (Nottingham Musculoskeletal Assessment and Treatment Service) which has recently been commissioned to deliver musculoskeletal services within the community setting.

 

He is interested in improving the quality and cost effectiveness of medical care.
